The History of Talbot Street Pier

One of the reasons we created the Huk Big Fish Classic was to preserve the history of fishing in Ocean City!  Talbot Street Pier hosted Ocean City Maryland's the first official tournament back 60 years ago the Marlin Club Labor Day Tournament!  The Ocean City Marlin Club originally was on Talbot Street before moving to the Ocean City Fishing Center and is now located at the amazing facility in West Ocean City.  Since the 1930s we have been seeing fish come to the scales at Talbot Street.  In the old days it was White Marlin and Bluefish as most of the fleet fished from 12-18 miles off the Beach.  To keep the history alive we created the tournament to carry that tradition.

We were excited this week when Angie Monzeglio shared a photo of one of the first White Marlin Pictures that we have seen based on the Model Ts in the background of her great uncle, Fred Segelken with a White Marlin.  Based on the Talbot Street Sign we can date it as there was no telephone number so we assuming it was in the late 30s early 40's.

If you have a photo of early Talbot Street Fishing in Ocean City Maryland please feel free to send it to us as we would love to feature it!  See you all at the Scales in July!
